Small Scale Freeze Dryer - Professional Laboratory Lyophilization Equipment
The small scale freeze dryer from Xi'an Bioland Instrument is perfect for labs and pilot-scale production because it can precisely freeze things. Our tabletop freeze dryer can reach cold trap temperatures of -80°C and ultimate pressure levels below 1 Pa. This makes sure that your sample sublimates quickly while keeping 97% of its bioactivity and nutritional value. The PLC touchscreen control, programmed drying processes, and GMP-compliant 316L stainless steel construction of this product make it possible to cut moisture by up to 90% without damaging the material with heat. It will fully control the freeze time, protect against overpressure, and let you change the way the trays are set up. We've been making things for more than 15 years, and for normal types, FDA-approved equipment is ready in 5 to 7 days.
In our method, we connect study done in the lab with production used in businesses. You can check important process factors before scaling up, which keeps costly batch fails from happening.

Working Principle
Our small scale freeze dryer operates through three scientifically controlled phases:
Phase 1: Freezing
Your samples are rapidly cooled to -40°C or lower on temperature-controlled shelves. This step forms uniform ice crystals, which create the structural scaffold for the final product. The system monitors eutectic point automatically to prevent melt-back.
Phase 2: Primary Drying (Sublimation)
The vacuum pump reduces chamber pressure below 50 Pa. At this low pressure, frozen water transitions directly from solid ice to vapor without passing through the liquid phase. The cold trap captures moisture at -50°C to -80°C, protecting your vacuum pump from contamination.
Phase 3: Secondary Drying (Desorption)
Shelf temperature gradually increases to +20°C to +40°C. This removes bound water molecules adhered to the material's surface. The result is a moisture content below 3%, ensuring long-term stability without refrigeration.
Throughout all phases, our intelligent control system adjusts temperature, vacuum, and time based on your pre-programmed recipe. This eliminates guesswork and ensures batch-to-batch consistency.
Process Flow
Step 1: Sample Preparation
Insert your stuff into boxes made of stainless steel. Ensure even drying by spreading samples out evenly.
Step 2: System Setup
Input the drying conditions using the tablet. Depending on the temperature properties of your material, you can choose from pre-programmed recipes or make your own patterns.
Step 3: Pre-Freezing
The shelves get to the right temperature. From 60 to 120 minutes, based on the sample volume, this part usually lasts.
Step 4: Vacuum Initiation
When samples are completely solid, the vacuum pump starts working. Within 10 to 15 minutes, the pressure drops to amount needed for operation.
Step 5: Sublimation Cycle
On average, primary drying takes 12 to 48 hours. Temperature and pressure are constantly measured by devices that instantly change the heating power.
Step 6: Secondary Drying
Temperature slowly rises. This step can last anywhere from 4 to 12 hours, based on the goal levels of residual moisture.
Step 7: Cycle Completion
Using dry nitrogen, the device breaks the pressure. The samples have now reached shelf stability and will keep their original form and bioactivity.
Step 8: Maintenance
The cold trap needs to be defrosted. For optimal performance, it is recommended to change the oil in the vacuum pump every 10 to 15 rounds.

Application Fields
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology
Keep medicines, antibodies, and cell lines stable. Our equipment keeps the glass transition temperature (Tg') steady, which stops proteins from breaking down. Without cold-chain operations, biologics will last longer and still be safe to use.
Food & Nutraceutical Industry
You can process fruit products, instant coffee, vitamins, and treats for pets. 97% of the vitamins and minerals are still in freeze-dried foods. Your customers get better taste and protein than with heat-dried options.
Research Institutions
Material science, tissue engineering, and chemical synthesis are all things that universities and R&D labs use our tools for. The customizable control makes it easy to try out different drying methods.
Herbal Medicine & Cosmetics
Keep the active ingredients in plant products. Processing takes place at low temperatures, so volatile aromatics stay whole. You can come up with high-end formulas that sell for more money.
Museum & Preservation
Keep treasures, wildlife specimens, and flower arrangements that are wet from damage. The soft drying process keeps the structure from falling apart and the colour from fading.
Diagnostics Manufacturing
Make steady test kits that can be used at the point of care. When lyophilized parts are rehydrated right away, they keep their enzyme activity so that the results are true.

Quality Certification
Xi'an Bioland Instrument holds the following certifications:
- ISO 9001:2015 - Quality Management System
- CE Certification - European Safety Standards
- UL Certification - North American Electrical Safety
- GMP Compliance - Good Manufacturing Practice for pharmaceutical equipment
Our manufacturing facility undergoes annual audits to maintain these standards. Every product passes rigorous testing before shipment:
- Vacuum leak rate test (rise in pressure of less than 0.5 Pa/min)
- Maps of shelf temperature uniformity
- Checking the condenser pull-down rate
- Check the surface finish (Ra <0.5εm for pharmaceutical-grade)
You'll receive complete test documentation with your equipment, including calibration certificates for temperature sensors and vacuum gauges.
FAQ
Q1: What's the difference between -50°C and -80°C cold traps?
Water-based treatments work perfectly in the -50°C trap. For working with ethanol or methanol or other chemical liquids, you need the -80°C setting. Lower temperatures protect your vacuum pump by making sure that all the vapour is trapped.
Q2: How do I prevent cake collapse during drying?
When the shelf temperature is higher than the eutectic point of your material, this happens. You can set conservative heating steps with our adjustable control. Start basic drying at -35°C to -40°C and slowly raise the temperature based on the pressure readings.
Q3: Can I process liquid samples directly?
In fact, pre-freezing is very important. For faster cooling, pour liquids into trays that are only 10 mm deep. Large ice crystals are formed by thicker layers, which damage the structure of cells.
Q4: How often should I change vacuum pump oil?
Every 10-15 cycles, or when the oil turns milky or dark. Moisture contamination reduces pumping efficiency. Use the gas ballast valve during operation to extend oil life by purging vapors.
Q5: What causes slow vacuum pull-down?
Check the door gasket for debris or damage. Inspect all hose connections and clamps. Ensure the cold trap reaches operating temperature before starting the cycle. If issues persist, contact us at info@biolandequip.com.
Q6: Is training included with purchase?
Yes. We provide operation manuals, video tutorials, and remote training sessions. For customized systems, our engineers can arrange on-site commissioning.
Q7: What's your warranty policy?
One-year comprehensive warranty covers parts and labor. Lifetime maintenance support means we'll supply spare parts and technical assistance throughout your equipment's service life.
